I decided to start this blog after driving to the Coast one day. There was a barn at least 100+ years old that I have always wanted to photograph. I had driven by it many times over the years, each time I kept telling myself I was going to stop and photograph it one day. The last time I drove by it, it was gone, it had become a victim of the years and the elements, a strong storm came through and it was blown down by the wind.
At that moment, I knew I had lost forever the opportunity to ever be able to stop and take a picture of that old barn. As I continued to drive toward my destination, I decided that was never going to happen again.
I knew at that time what I was destined to do, I had to make a photographic record of all these beautiful structures I have been admiring all these years. Never again was I going to just drive by these fantastic structures without stopping to photograph them.
My main focus are the barns of the California countyside, there are literally hundreds of them in many different stages of disrepair and decay. Most seem to me to be from a time where folks still traveled by horse and buggy, most look to be at least built at the turn of the 20th century, they must be aged at least 100 years. That in itself make these fascinating, they have withstood the test of time and in many cases are still in use today. That alone draws me to them they just continue to defy the forces of nature and stand strong. I will also photograph other buildings that have endured the test of time, but the main focus will be the majestic barns of California.
I hope you enjoy the photographs, I only hope I can do them justice, they deserve to be immortalized before they disappear forever.
